Dr G Kyazze, Prof T Keshavarz  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship to be undertaken at the University of Westminster, New Cavendish site, central London. The position is available to start in September 2017.

Background of the Project
Microbial fuel cells have gained much attention in recent years because of their promise in simultaneously treating wastewater while generating electricity. The aim of the project is the use of microbial fuel cell technology to treat industrial wastewater to be reused as non-potable water by communities where water is scarce e.g. farming in need of irrigation, and industries where water is required for cleaning or cooling.
This project is funded by the British Council (Newton Fund) under its Institutional Links Grants programme and is in collaboration with Atomic Energy Agency, Egypt.

Person Specification
Applicants should have obtained, or be about to obtain, a First or an Upper Second Class UK Honours degree in Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related disciplines with preferably an MSc, and previous practical experience in microbiological techniques (e.g. cell culturing). The required qualifications include hands-on experience conducting laboratory experiments, strong communication skills, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Applications are made via UKPASS to the Biotechnology MPhil/PhD programme and you should clearly state that you are applying for the microbial fuel cells studentship (under funding arrangements). As well as the application on UKPASS, please also e-mail a cover letter and CV to Dr Godfrey Kyazze who should also be contacted for informal enquiries about the project (e-mail: [Email Address Removed]). If you have questions about the application process contact our PhD Admissions Tutor by e-mail: [Email Address Removed] .
