Prof P Jennings
Applications accepted all year round
About the Project
The applicant will join WMG’s Intelligent Vehicles Group, working on the CARMA Project (also called SCDC project) with a prestigious research programme, TASCC, jointly funded by EPSRC and Jaguar Land Rover.
The PhD candidate is expected to systematically investigate feasibility and performance of collaborative perception in a network of connected autonomous cars in order to create a reliable and highly accurate perception of the state of a subject autonomous vehicle, e.g., its location, as well as the surrounding environment. The research will build on the top of existing techniques that
autonomous vehicles currently apply for the above-mentioned purposes addressing their shortcomings in terms of accuracy and reliability without needing expensive on-board sensory and computing resources. To this end, the research will investigate alternative approach of using offboard information that can be made available through V2X communications and integrate them in a robust manner to deal with potential disruptions of communication systems.
Entry requirements:
You must have an MSc or BSc degree, with an outstanding academic record, in a related discipline such as Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. We are looking for a highly ambitious applicant with strong desire to address highly challenging research problems to produce top quality research output that can be applied in practical systems and published in top international journals.
Applicants should also demonstrate they have the academic background to quickly learn and research in at least a number of subject areas such as Estimation Theory, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition is required.
