Dr Haider Butt, Prof S Dimov  Applications accepted all year round  Self-Funded PhD Students Only

About the Project

Nanotechnology has a myriad of possible biomedical applications. A PhD position exists in the area of wearable bio-technologies with the focus on producing contact lenses for colour blind patients. Commercial contact lenses will be modified via laser directed writing to tailor their optical transmission properties. The project operates at the interface of optics, nanotechnologies, biomedical engineering and material science.

The candidate should be qualified to at least first degree level (above 70%) with a first class honors degree (high 2:1) in one of the following disciplines Physics, Optics, and biomedical engineering. Some background in optics or nano-photonics will be helpful.

Applications comprising a detailed CV highlighting the previous qualifications (with grades/percentage/CGPA received) and photonics related projects undertaken and publications should be sent to Dr Haider Butt. Emphasis should be given to the past optics experience. The CVs not mentioning the exact grades will not be considered.

Funding Notes

This project aims to attract self-funded students.

For excellent applicants (very good first degree), there is the potential for partial scholarships.
