Dr D McWilliams  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team with expertise in the investigation of pain mechanisms, symptom assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. This project will focus on pain and fatigue in people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

This project aims to better understand the causes of fatigue in people with RA. We hypothesise that there are discrete predictors of fatigue, and important interactions with pain, mental health and inflammatory disease activity in people with RA.

Data will be used from the Early RA Network (ERAN) cohort, plus other RA datasets, to statistically examine the correlates and predictors of fatigue; identify trajectories of how fatigue changes through time; and how inflammation, pain and fatigue might influence each other.

Funding Notes

The studentship will include the payment of tuition fees at the Home/EU rate and a maintenance stipend of approximately £14,553 per annum, in the first instance (2017/18). EU students would have their tuition fees paid for the full 3 years. Non-EU students would have to self-fund the difference between the Home/EU fees and International fees.
