About the Project

University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Funded Studentship:

Division of Health Sciences, Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick

Project Title: Evaluating the delivery and impact of pharmacy based sexual health services

The student will investigate the impact of a novel sexual health service provided by community pharmacies on patients, pharmacy staff and the wider society. The project will also define the training needs of pharmacy staff and explore how the service can be further developed and optimized, both in the West Midlands and nationally.

It is envisaged that the PhD project will include:

• a review of relevant literature informed by realist philosophy
• a systematic review of the effectiveness of interventions to deliver sexual health care in pharmacies
• observational studies in community pharmacies to investigate enablers and barriers to service delivery
• qualitative studies with service users, pharmacy staff and commissioners using interviews and focus groups

The successful candidate will join a vibrant and expanding research team at the University of Warwick within the Division of Health Sciences.

The first academic supervisor will be Professor Robert Walton, Division of Health Sciences, Warwick Medical School. Co-supervisors will be Professor Jonathan Ross and Professor Frances Griffiths.

The successful candidate will be expected to start on the 2 October 2017 and will be located at Warwick Medical School.

The applicant should have a qualitative or mixed methods background. Some training (e.g. a Master’s degree) in either epidemiology or public health or social science or a similar subject will be advantageous.

This studentship is available to Home and EU students, according to fee status, that meet Research Council eligibility requirements based on residency.
