About the Project

The Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership (MIBTP) is a BBSRC-funded doctoral training partnership between the University of Warwick, the University of Birmingham and the University of Leicester. The Group of Advanced Materials and Electrochemistry Research ( https://www.amperelabgroup.com/ ) at the University of Birmingham is recruiting an excellent student for one 4-year studentships starting in Oct 2020. This student would do a year of training and start their PhD research in Oct 2020.

The project “Affordable ligand-based electrochemical detection of bacterial toxins” will be delivering in collaboration with Dr.Francisco Fernandez-Trillo (School of Chemistry University of Birmingham) and Dr Matthew I. Gibson ( University of Warwick). In this cross-disciplinary project we will work towards the development of affordable electrochemical sensors to monitor pathogenic concentrations of bacterial toxin in aqueous solutions.

Funding Notes

The successful candidate should hold MSc degree in chemistry, physical chemistry or physics (with an average of at least 65%) and should have a strong motivation. These positions are only available for UK or EU citizens. The candidate should have an excellent knowledge of the English language (IELTS or similar is required), both in speech and in writing.
