About the Project

This research project seeks to examine the relationship between culture, personality and the type of entrepreneurial activity that this leads to. It therefore addresses calls from researchers to consider not just the quantity, but also the quality of entrepreneurial activity generated in localities. The project builds upon the existing research of the supervisory team who have a strong record of publishing in top rated journals and also producing research which is not only cited within other academic studies, but also used by local policymakers. The project therefore has the scope to not just extend knowledge, but also have an impact on policy related to local economic development. It provides the opportunity to utilise more traditional data collection and analysis techniques, but also engage in experimental approaches to economic and business research that are recognised as providing a valuable alternative method of testing theories. You would be supported through your studies by an experienced supervisory team who have supported the studies of a large number of PhD students. The successful applicant will join a vibrant research culture within Nottingham Business School with the chance to work and learn from staff in a number of established research groups including the Public Policy and Management research group and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation research group. The research groups within Nottingham Business School also allow research students a platform to exchange ideas with one another to further their studies. Nottingham Business School also actively encourages doctoral students to network externally with funding available for students looking to present their work at conferences, such as, the British Academy of Management.
