Low carbon city development with water resources constraints (GuanDU17DEV)

The Studentships will be available under the Scheme to applicants who, in their research proposal, demonstrate academic excellence in areas relevant to the field of climate change and environmental or ecological economics. The studentships will be based in the School of International Development.

The studentship will be funded by EPSRC project studentship and, with part funding coming from the Social Science Faculty. The successful candidate would work with Dabo Guan, Professor of Climate Change Economics and Zhu Liu, Lecturer in Sustainability Science at UEA. The Studentship covers tuition fees, a tax-free maintenance grant (currently £14,296 per year), and a research training support grant. UK/EU and international students are welcome to apply and the fee difference would be included in the award.
Applicants for all studentships are invited from suitably qualified graduates. Candidates should hold, or expect to hold, a minimum of at least a 2.1 (upper second class) undergraduate degree. Candidates may be asked to participate in an interview, which could take place via telephone or Skype as part of the selection process. EU and International applicants may be required to provide evidence of competence in the English Language.

Applicants should have a strong quantitative modelling background. Lifecycle analysis and environmental input-output modelling will be the core part of the PhD research. Strong data handling and compiling skills are essential. Some programming skills will be required, such as Matlab. Applicant will need to assist to complete low carbon city data compilation and water footprint analysis for an EPSRC project.
