About the Project

This is a collaborative program of hypothesis-driven research between UK industry, AB Vista, a division of AB Agri, and the UEA. The project falls in the BBSRC Priority Area of Sustainable Agriculture and will provide a mechanistic explanation of the efficacy of the industry’s recombinant phytases (inositol hexakisphosphate phosphatases) to agricultural efficiency.

Our laboratory in the School of Biological Sciences at UEA has expertise in phytate (inositol hexakisphosphate) and phytase biology, structural biology and enzymology. You will learn skills in enzymology, analytical science (HPLC, GC-MS, Isotope Mass Ratio Spectrometry) and bioinformatics that have direct relevance to industry needs and you will join enjoy placement(s) with our industrial partner according to your developing interests. Your research extends substantial programs of research funded since 2012 at UEA. You will have the opportunity to join our industrial partners at international conferences where your work will be presented.

You will join a dynamic and well-funded group with training provided at UEA by Charles Brearley, Jon Todd and the SCI Faculty Analytical Facility. We are able to provide an exciting and demanding project to a suitably qualified individual with a strong interest in enzymology and/or bioanalytical science. You will hold, or expect to hold, a first or good upper second class honours undergraduate degree (or equivalent) from any of a range of disciplines including, but not restricted to biochemistry, biological chemistry and biological sciences.

This project is accompanied by an increment, provided by our industrial partner, to the stipend provided by BBSRC. Informal enquiries may be made to [Email Address Removed]

This Industrial CASE project has been shortlisted for funding by the Norwich Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership (NRPDTP). Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed as part of the studentship competition on either the 9th, 10th or 11th January 2018.
The Norwich Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership (NRPDTP) offers postgraduates the opportunity to undertake a 4 year research project whilst enhancing professional development and research skills through a comprehensive training programme. You will join a vibrant community of world-leading researchers. For further information and to apply, please visit our website: http://biodtp.norwichresearchpark.ac.uk/the-programme/industrial-case
