About the Project

The University of Greenwich wishes to appoint a high-calibre PhD researcher to join an on-going collaborative research and innovation project funded by the European Commission entitled ‘improving the design of flexible and responsive manufacturing systems involving autonomous and collaborative robots’. The PhD student is co-sponsored by BAE Systems, and aims to improve the performance and operation of high value complex manufacturing systems, using collaborative robots and advanced ICT technologies. We are looking for candidates with a background in manufacturing engineering, robotics, automation or related disciplines, ideally with good knowledge and skills in Information and Communication Technologies. Candidates should have or expected to achieve an undergraduate degree (2:1 or above). Candidates with Masters degrees or those with practical experience in research or industry are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will benefit from both academic and industrial training, and collaborate with several companies and universities in the large-scale project.

Funding Notes

Bursary available (subject to satisfactory performance): £20,000 - £22,000 per year (Tax-free) for 3 years, starting as soon as possible. In addition, the successful candidate will receive a contribution to tuition fees equivalent to the university’s Home/EU rate for the duration of their scholarship and travel expenses paid to attend appropriate international conferences and seminars. Note that the nominated candidate is subject to approval by BAE Systems.
