About the Project

Basic Helix-loop-Helix transcription factors are master regulators of neural cell fate determination and differentiation. The activity of bHLH proteins is regulated by positively-acting and negatively-acting modulators that also have profound contributions to development and disease (Dev Cell 35:269-280 2015; Development 145:dev159426 2018). A PhD position is available to participate in the identification and characterization of novel regulators of bHLH gene function. The successful candidate will employ genetic, molecular genetic, and biochemical approaches to identify and characterize regulators of neurogenesis in the fruitfly Drosophila. The specific experiments may include biochemical, genetic, whole-genome sequencing and live imaging approaches.
