About the Project

We are seeking excellent candidates with interests in automation and manufacturing engineering who want to study at a top 10 UK research-led University whilst working with industrial partners.

This project is part of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Embedded Intelligence. In choosing this project you’ll work alongside academics that are leaders in their field and benefit from a four-year studentship award that includes an enhanced EPSRC tax-free annual stipend of at least £17,553 per annum and UK/EU tuition fees. Furthermore, you will have access to a personal training budget of £10,000, which is in addition to a research budget and support from academic members of staff and industrial partners. This programme offers some of the most comprehensive training opportunities for embedded intelligent systems and will allow you to create a highly sought after portfolio of skills that bridge between engineering and ICT.

Full Project Detail:
This project will offer the opportunity to work with some of the UK leading organisations in advanced manufacturing and intelligent automation technology to create new concepts and solutions for the digital revolution in manufacturing. It is co-sponsored by The MTC and you will join the Intelligent Automation research group in the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering (http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/meme/). The project will focus on exploring latest Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to design and test transformative solutions that address the challenges faced by High Value Manufactures. During the project advanced data-driven learning approaches will be combined with embedded, distributed computing solutions building on the emerging paradigms of Cyber-Physical Systems and Industrial Internet of Things. You will have access to some of the best equipped labs in the UK at both the MTC and Loughborough University and work alongside some highly skilled researchers and engineers.

Entry requirements:
Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Automation or Applied Mathematics or other relevant discipline. A relevant Master’s degree and/or experience in one or more of the following will be an advantage: high level programming language, control system design, embedded systems, simulation and modelling.

Funding Notes

The studentship is for four years and provides a tax free stipend of at least £17,553 per annum for the duration, plus tuition fees at the UK/EU rate. Due to funding restrictions, this funding is only available to those who are eligible to pay UK/EU fees.
