About the Project

Egypt as one of the Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) often have limited resources,
underdeveloped health systems and scarce knowledge of autism spectrum disorder unfortunately, services provision for children with developmental disabilities in general and ASD in particularly in Egypt are often minimal or even absent and does not reflect the standard of human rights for children Parents in Egypt are often left to sift through information by themselves to see what is credible and relevant to them. This leaves families with limited options to support children and young people with ASD and is a cause of isolation and frustration? Lack of awareness and resources contribute to the unmet needs of individuals with autism in the Middle east and Arab countries. There is a need for promoting positive mental health for children with developmental disabilities in Egypt and particular needs for supporting their parents in the absence of social and mental health care. Thus, there is a mutual advantage in conducting this research project.to promote children's emotional and behavioural health and enhanced children's functioning and provide parents with the best practice intervention for ASD and comorbid disorders, which will help to strengthen the family's capacities to meet the needs of the child This research aims to work with and to empower parents to have a better understanding of what their child / young person with ASD is facing and assist in identifying most appropriate and useful interventions to help them cope better with emotional and behavioural challenging behaviour.

Aims
1. To develop and implement a sustainable, parent focussed and value for money autism spectrum disorder intervention model interventions guide for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in Egypt
2. To examine the influence of a parents training program on the parental resilience.
3. To stimulate cross-relational dialogue between ASD support groups in the UK, across Europe and in Egypt.
