About the Project

Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of morbidity and mortality in Western societies. Immune cells and their responses participate in all phases of atherosclerosis and repair processes after post-myocardial infarction.

We focus on the contribution of immune cells to cardiovascular biology, bridging immunology and cardiovascular pathology. There is a special interest in cell biology and the molecular signaling mechanisms driving atherogenic inflammation and myocardial infarction .

The PhD student will employ murine models of atherosclerosis and/or cardiac injury (myocardial infarction), combined with cutting edge tools in immune cell phenotyping and transcriptomics, as well as basic techniques commonly used in cellular and molecular biolog.

Funding Notes

Successful candidates should have studied Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Bioinfarmatics or a similar field of study, and have shown outstanding academic performance. Prerequisite is previous hands on experience with experimental mouse models and prior work in the field of inflammation, cardiovascular research or related areas. Suitable candidates should be highly motivated with an intrinsic interest in molecular and disease mechanisms.
