Dr A Chaplin  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

This project will explore the organometallic chemistry of highly reactive transition metal complexes embedded within ligands constructed from resorcin[4]arene scaffolds. The fundamental structure and reaction chemistry of these species will be investigated, with a particular focus on the coordination and subsequent activation of alkanes. Practical work will involve ligand orientated organic synthesis and the manipulation and characterisation (VT NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction) of late transition metal containing compounds under an inert atmosphere.

Enquires are welcomed and applications should be directed as soon as possible to Dr Adrian Chaplin ([Email Address Removed]); please include a current CV that details any past research work.

Funding Notes

This Royal Society funded studentship is open to UK/EU nationals, covers all tuition fees and provides an annual tax-free stipend of ca. £14,500 for 4 years. Applications must have excellent synthetic chemistry skills and, before starting the project, hold an honours degree (at least II.1 or equivalent) in Chemistry, or other relevant discipline. Previous working knowledge of synthetic organometallic and/or supramolecular chemistry is desirable, but not essential.
