About the Project

Applications are invited for a fully funded 3-year postgraduate studentship to develop organometallic catalysts for the activation of inert carbon–fluorine bonds in fluorocarbons. The position is available no later than October 2018 and will be held in the research group of Dr. Mark Crimmin at Imperial College London.

Project
The project aims to develop and understand new organometallic catalysts for the transformation of carbon–fluorine bonds into carbon–aluminium, carbon–magnesium or carbon–boron bonds using well-defined main group reagents. It builds upon recently published work from the group (Angew. Chem., Int. Ed. 2012, 12559; J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2016, 12763; Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2017, 12678). Training will be provided in organometallic synthesis, air-sensitive techniques and homogeneous catalysis including aspects of mechanistic analysis. You will work in a small team. Candidates
The successful candidate should hold, or expect to receive, a 1st class or 2(i) MSci degree or equivalent. Ideal candidates will have a background in organic or organometallic synthesis and some aspects of catalysis.

Funding Notes

This fully funded studentship is open to UK and EU citizens and covers tuition fees and stipend of £16,553 (2017/18 rates).
