About the Project

Cancer Research UK funded Clinical Research Training Fellowship

This position will offer a high quality basic science and translational research experience to a suitably motivated individual who seeks to combine a clinical career in gastroenterology or gastro-intestinal pathology with scientific research. The UCL Cancer Institute is a £40 million investment in central London based at University College London (UCL), one of the world’s top universities and a founding member of the Crick Institute.

The post should enable a clinical research fellow to obtain a widely varied laboratory based experience and generate sufficient original research to submit a PhD upon its completion. It is anticipated that the trainee will present their findings at regional and international meetings, and submit original research for peer-reviewed publication. It is expected that the post holder will continue with some clinical commitment during the funding period, though clinical work should not exceed 1 Programmed Activity (PA) equivalent per week. The primary supervisor will be Professor Tony Ng.

The main objective is to investigate how anti-EGFR therapy-induced ErbB/HER dimer formation can in turn influence the tumour microenvironment, focusing on unfolded protein response- based mechanisms that can modulate the adaptive and innate immune effectors in the tumour microenvironment.

Key Requirements:
The successful applicant should hold full GMC registration and possess membership of the Royal Collegeof Physicians or equivalent. The applicant will also have a Medical degree and a completed core medical training or equivalent. The postholder will be undertaking or have completed higher specialist training in Oncology.

The postholder will have experience of developing an understanding of complex problems and applying in-depth knowledge to address them. Experience of molecular biology and basic immunology techniques is desirable.
