About the Project

This PhD project is ideal for those interested in infinite combinatorics with elements of set theory mathematical analysis. It addresses classification problems brought up by the study of spaces of measures as produced from Boolean algebras. In particular, problems in non-separable Banach spaces and spaces of measures; Recent work of the PI and others have fleshed out a very interesting connecting between this and set theory, through the uses of forcing morasses and other combinatorial devices. The concrete problematic addressed will be formation of Banach spaces through Boolean algebras and the Stone duality. Several concrete open problems remain. The supervisor has a large experience working with students of diverse backgrounds, in particular international students.

For more information on the supervisor for this project, please go here: http://www.uea.ac.uk/mathematics/people/profile/m-dzamonja

Project start date: October 2018

Mode of study: Full time

Entry requirements: Acceptable first degree Mathematics, preferably Masters in Mathematics. The standard minimum entry requirement is 2:1.

Funding Notes

This PhD project is offered on a self-funding basis. It is open to applicants with funding or those applying to funding sources. Details of tuition fees can be found at http://www.uea.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/research-degrees/fees-and-funding.

A bench fee is also payable on top of the tuition fee to cover specialist equipment or laboratory costs required for the research. The amount charged annually will vary considerably depending on the nature of the project and applicants should contact the primary supervisor for further information about the fee associated with the project.
