Project Description:
The use of climate technologies, as part of the solution for stabilizing global warming, has been promoted in China for the past decade. This project aims to understand how the Chinese economic governance system relates to the diffusion of climate technologies and how the state can provide technology-oriented environmental goods.

Two topics will be explored in particular — transport and energy policies — to analyze, understand, and extrapolate changing patterns of the governance of sustainable infrastructure development as a perceived path to preempting environmentally induced conflicts. Elite interviews and archive strategies will be adopted to investigate policy formulation and practices of sustainable infrastructure in China. The goal of these strategies is to further explore from the governance mechanisms embedded in the structure of political economy, thus enriching our understanding regarding the potential new mode of sustainable infrastructure development for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
