Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
About the Project
Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment at Western Sydney University is offering a unique PhD Scholarship opportunity in conjunction with The University of Sheffield under a Dual Award partnership. The partnership means that you can study for a PhD within both universities, gaining incredible experience, mentoring opportunities and professional development recognised by both universities.
Project
C4 plants independently evolved more than 60 times in grasses and some dicots, but not in trees. It is hypothesised that while C4 grasses are mainly adapted to low CO2 and high temperature, C4 dicots are better adapted to aridity. This project will explore evolution of leaf hydraulics in C3 and C4 grasses and dicots and examine their response to past climate (i.e., what drove C4 evolution) and future climate (winners and losers in the future).
