About the Project

Plant individuals and populations show enormous and ubiquitous variation in chemical defence traits. Explanations for this diversity invoke tradeoffs between the costs and benefits of chemical defence, however these are not often quantified. This project will investigate tradeoffs in two systems. It will look for genetic and ecological trade-offs between 1) chemical defence and shade tolerance, as well as plasticity in growth and ontogenetic progression in Eucalyptus (Australia), and 2) leaf and flower volatile diversity and both herbivore defence and pollinator attraction in wild tomato, Solanum habrochaites (UK).

Criteria

Hold qualifications and experience equal to one of the following (i) an Australian First Class Bachelor Honours degree, (ii) coursework Masters with at least a 25% research component , (iii) a Research Masters degree or (iv) equivalent overseas qualifications.
International applicants must also demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the English language. Please refer to the English language requirements at www.westernsydney.edu.au/ international/home/admissions/entry_requirements
