About the Project

PhD in Chemical Engineering
The Centre for Process System Engineering at Imperial College London/UCL is seeking to recruit a PhD student to carry out research with Professors Galindo and Jackson in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company in the exciting area of development of methods for the prediction of solubility of pharma compounds under changing conditions of pH, temperature, pressure, solvent composition and chemical nature. The student will be based at Imperial College London.
The aim of this project is to extend the capability of a group contribution methodology, in which molecules are partitioned in their constituent groups and the properties of the system are predicted by accounting for the contributions of each of the groups. We will specifically address the challenge of treating charged species. The student will join a team with a well-established activity in this area and will extend our current computational tools to broader classes systems that can be treated.
Applicants should have broad interests, spanning computational and theoretical techniques as well as an interest in molecular modelling. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, which will be essential in collaborating with the industrial partner, disseminating the results via journal publications and attendance at international conferences. Applicants are expected to have obtained (or be heading for) a First or Upper-second degree at Master’s level (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics and be highly motivated.

Start date: any time before January 2019.
Applications
Applications should be made through the College’s online application system. Important information about the College’s PhD application process can be found on the following page: http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/pgprospectus/applicationforms
