Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
About the Project
Fully funded PhD post-graduate studentship at the University of New Brunswick, Department of Chemistry; a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment (http://www.unb.ca/fredericton/science/depts/chemistry/index.html). The aim of the project is to study the influence on properties (absorbance, luminescence, electronic) of coordination complexes through second-sphere interactions. The intended start date is early September 2018. The work will include aspects of organic synthesis, coordination chemistry, and supramolecular analyses. Candidates should have experience with organic synthesis and/or coordination chemistry, NMR spectroscopy, and chromatography. Experience in molecular modelling and / or photoluminescence spectroscopy would be advantageous but not required. Candidates will acquire advanced training in synthesis and analyses of novel group 9 and 10 coordination compounds and further develop them into applied functional materials. The successful candidate will be based at the University of New Brunswick’s Fredericton campus in Fredericton, Canada under the supervision of Dr Barry A Blight.
Funding Notes
Applicants should have or expect to obtain an MSc in Chemistry by the time of appointment. Canadian applicants may apply with a strong BSc Honors in Chemistry. This will be funded at the level of a standard Canadian stipend for up to 3 years, which is sufficient to cover fees, and living expenses in NB. The graduate studentship will also involve undertaking teaching duties (demonstrating) during the period of study. Overseas applicants will be required to pay domestic fees only.
