About the Project

This Collaborative PhD studentship involves a unique partnership with Travelport, including additional supervision by Rachel Humphrey, HR Director at Travelport
The Project
In this research project we aim to bridge theory and practice by using HR analytics to help make better HR decisions. More specifically, in his/her research, the student will work with Dr Martin Edwards and the HR analytics team at Travelport to explore two to three high impact, theoretically informed and practically relevant analytics projects. The analytics projects may involve the use of existing and/or newly collected data to help answer specific HR driven business questions. In addition, the researcher will track the development of HR Analytics competencies in Travelport as a case study example of an organisation aiming to increase its HR Analytics capabilities.
What King’s Business School offers:

This collaborative partnership offers students a unique opportunity to conduct a PhD in HR analytics, supervised by field experts, based in an HR function of a multinational organization that is developing its HR analytics offering. King’s Business School has a body of world renowned HR experts and a community of quantitative HRM researchers. The scholarship will also allow access to data analytics experts in the Consumer and Organisational Data Analytics (CODA) research centre and the Department of Informatics.
King’s Business School is one of the top academic centres in management and business in the UK and has an outstanding reputation for the quality of its research and teaching. It is based in the iconic Bush House in the heart of London and offers access to high-end computing facilities. Advanced PhD research training will be provided through the King’s Business School and the London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS-DTP).
Eligibility
Academic requirements:
• Satisfy the entry requirements the King’s Business School PhD programme(s)
• Applicants should ideally have a good first degree and a Masters in the social sciences (e.g. business and management, psychology) and have demonstrated advanced quantitative skills with considerable competence in applied statistics (psychology/psychometrics, maths/statistics or econometrics) ideally with some educational and/or practitioner background or training in HR.
The 3-year studentship covers:
• Home/EU Tuition fees
• An annual stipend (approx. £16,700), plus an additional annual allowance of £3,000 from Travelport
• A generous annual conference and training grant
• Additional paid teaching opportunities
• Travelport will provide working space in their Langley (Greater London) location and the use of a lap-top when carrying out analyses with their HR data.

Funding Notes

Residential requirements:
• UK/EU applicants will be eligible for a full award paying tuition fees and maintenance.
