About the Project

European countries have recently seen an unprecedented influx of regular and irregular migrants. Cultural differences and language barriers pose particular difficulties with the integration of refugees into their host societies. However, team sports could further integration of migrants with their host communities. Team sports establish community spirit, and sports provide an alternative way of communicating with the body that can transcend initial language barriers. Yet, there is a need for a comparative study on how communities invest in team sports as a form of engagement with migrants. Therefore, this studentship should look into two interrelated questions: Firstly, how can team sports contribute to the integration of migrants? Secondly, how can governmental agencies develop team sports as an active part of official integration policies?
