About the Project

The Masters by Research student will undertake a scoping project of sexual health initiatives across Scotland in partnership with colleagues from The Scottish Government, NHS and Third Sector. The central aim of the study is to better understand initiatives currently undertaken across Scotland in regards to sexual health, and how these are being evaluated. The results of the study will feed into the Scottish Government’s review of the current Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses Framework. The student will develop research skills in systematic literature review and service evaluation. We welcome candidates who have experience in the field of sexual health as well as candidates with a social science/social policy background.

Academic qualifications
A first degree (at least a 2.1) ideally in a Social Science subject with a good fundamental knowledge of health issues and/or social policy issues.

English language requirement
IELTS score must be at least 6.5 (with not less than 6.0 in each of the four components). Other, equivalent qualifications will be accepted. Full details of the University’s policy are available online.

Essential attributes:
• Experience of fundamental
• Competent in searching for and reviewing literature
• Knowledge of sexual health and/or social policy related to health
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Strong motivation, with evidence of independent research skills relevant to the project
• Good time management

Desirable attributes:
• Background in social science or health
• Experience of undertaking independent research ( including dissertation research)
• Qualitative and/or quantitative research skills such as interviewing, systematic review, experience of using Geographic Information Systems
• Experience of working in a health/policy setting
