Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
About the Project
Four Year PhD Programme at the MRC Harwell Institute and Research Complex at Harwell, Oxfordshire, in conjunction with the University of Oxford or Open University
The MRC Harwell Institute and Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH) are offering a PhD studentship to study the role of the immune molecule C-reactive protein (CRP) and its binding in infectious disease caused by the bacterium non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi). The project will involve in vitro binding and functional studies and an in vivo mouse infection model at the MRC Harwell Institute (Dr Derek Hood) and state of the art high resolution imaging including newly developed correlative light and electron microscopy at RCaH (Dr Marisa Martin-Fernandez).
The MRC Harwell Institute is an International Centre for studying mouse genetics and at the forefront of studies in mouse functional genomics and mouse models of human disease. The Research Complex at Harwell is a multidisciplinary laboratory that provides facilities for researchers to undertake cutting edge scientific research in both life and physical sciences that probes the structure and behaviour of matter at the level of atoms and molecules.
Students are registered with the University of Oxford who will award the PhD, or for non-eligible students the Open University. The studentship includes an annual stipend of £15,240 and University fees for students meeting the UK residence requirements detailed on our website. Currently the MRC Harwell Institute has 27 doctoral training students. The two institutes provide a vibrant atmosphere and a supportive environment for the development of future leaders in the life and physical sciences.
Please apply on-line but for any further information on the project please contact Dr Derek Hood at MRC Harwell Institute ([Email Address Removed]).
