Dr Donel Martin, Prof Colleen Loo  No more applications being accepted  Competition Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

Non-invasive methods for brain stimulation have emerged in the last two decades as novel and promising tools for modulating brain function, including enhancement of cognition in neuropsychiatric disorders. The latter includes the possibility of improving cognition in those at risk of dementia. This research program will examine novel techniques based on Transcranial Magnetic and Transcranial Electrical forms of brain stimulation. Initial, proof of concept research will test variations in stimulation paradigms that result in cognitive enhancement, followed by pilot clinical research applying this technique in people with mild cognitive impairment.

The ideal candidate for this project will have a background in psychology or neuroscience, a research-based degree, a high level of academic achievement and excellent communication skills. Technical skills required include experience in quantitative statistical analysis. Desirable specific skills and experiences include prior work conducting cognitive testing, using non-invasive brain stimulation techniques and working with clinical populations.
