About the Project

This is a collaboration between Manchester Metropolitan University and The FA to investigate musculoskeletal health and injury in disability football with a focus on seasonal variations and the role of vitamin D.

This fully funded scholarship covers course fees and an annual stipend at the Research Council’s UK rate.

The project will aim to increase the understanding of:

* Diet and vitamin D deficiency in disability football
* Seasonal variation in vitamin D within disability football
* Injury occurrence within disability football (12 month prospective injury measurement)
* Bone health in blind athletes and the links with neuromuscular function and diet.

This will be achieved by the physiological assessment and monitoring of national disability and developing football teams. Beyond the research aims, the project will aim to increase the understanding of physiological performance, and its potential limitations in elite disability footballers.
