Edge computing in wireless networks

The School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Leeds is offering this opportunity to conduct a PhD research in the area of edge computing. Edge computing is an exciting new paradigm in ICT that brings computational resources into the edge of the network, closer to the end users. The goal is to enable edge nodes to execute user applications in real time and improve the quality of service.

The focus of this project will be on edge computing in wireless networks. Thus, smart cities can be empowered with applications that has the potential in the areas of healthcare, smart transportation, and smart grids. The research includes, but not limited to: optimizing the seamless distribution and migration of virtual machines, resilience, user mobility, and wireless channel impact. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply several tools and techniques to address the research questions, including mathematical modeling, queueing theory, real time heuristics and anticipatory networking. It is expected that the successful candidate will be highly committed, write conference and journal papers, and support MSc research students.
