About the Project

In modern Cloud / Fog / Edge computing systems there are various heterogeneous machines or devices that typically handle large volumes of data and computation. In such environments, allocation of work onto resources becomes a significant challenge for their efficient and effective use. For example, a certain allocation approach may no longer be a good option if there is a change in the load of these resources (or a change in data sizes, network traffic, monetary cost or other application aspects). The idea of this project is to study problems in the field of managing resources (from actual scheduling to decisions involved in the use of resources), stemming from typical (often data- or compute-intensive) applications, workloads and platforms. The project should propose and evaluate resource management (or Scheduling, Decision Making) solutions and algorithms that explore the various trade-offs and deliver cost-effective solutions for the use of the multiple resources.
