Limitless sights,
one sensational city
Study in London – recently voted the world’s top student city for jobs, diversity of culture, and quality of life (QS Best Student Cities 2018). Goldsmiths is based in New Cross, South East London, a dynamic area that’s home to an exciting creative scene. It’s less than 10 minutes away from London Bridge station, with easy access to the city centre and all that the capital has to offer.

“Studying music and sound at Goldsmiths affords incredible opportunities for interdisciplinary work and collaboration and provides a thriving community within one of the most innovative centres for artistic research in the world.”
James, PhD in Music

Diverse individuals, one supportive community
At Goldsmiths all your teaching, learning and support facilities are in one place. It creates a close-knit community feel, where it’s easy to get to know other researchers, academics and students from 140 countries around the world.

Goldsmiths is a member of four prestigious doctoral training centres and partnerships, giving you the opportunity to apply for a fully-funded studentship from the AHRC, ESRC, EPSRC or Design Star Consortium, alongside a variety of other funding to support your work.

On campus you’ll find specialist support for research students from your supervisor, your academic department and the Graduate School. The Graduate School provides training, funding opportunities, seminars, events and an academic practice programme to develop your skills in teaching and learning.

“The years I spent on this project were some of the most interesting of my life, and I received absolutely first-class support from my supervisor, the Department of Psychology and the entire university.”
Josh, PhD in Psychology

Boundless potential, one enriching journey
Leaders, challengers, creators and debaters – they’ve all studied here, and they’ve been inspired to pave the way in lots of different areas.

Goldsmiths is in the top 10 in the UK for research intensity (CUG league tables 2018), with nearly three quarters of our research environment rated world-leading or internationally excellent (Research Excellence Framework 2014).

As an MPhil and PhD student, you’ll work alongside pioneering academics who are pushing the boundaries of their disciplines and working on issues as artificial intelligence and the plight of child refugees.

“I have had many opportunities during my time here to work with colleagues on projects, conferences and publications both within the department and College and outside, even internationally.”
Hannah, PhD in Sociology
