The Department of Biological Sciences is a new and rapidly growing department at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). Our ambition is to become a world class bioscience research establishment and provide our students with the best research-led education available.
Many of the key global challenges that human society will face in the next century are areas in which biological research will make a significant impact. Issues such as climate change, food security, human health and well-being and environmental sustainability are all rooted within biological systems. However, biological sciences alone will not solve these problems, and our academics work in an increasing inter-disciplinary environment alongside chemists, physicists, economists, engineers and social scientists to work towards a holistic solution to these problems.
We feel a strong sense of mission to educate and engage the next generation of biological scientists with inter-disciplinary learning, critical thinking, creativity, leadership and entrepreneurship, in addition to providing them with an excellent command of English.
We are fortunate to have attracted the very best local and international students, and a a strong faculty with a diverse range of teaching and research expertise from world-class universities.
Our department currently offers a degree programme in Biological Sciences with four specialisations, namely Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology and Molecular Biology.
