Synthetic Chemistry (self) PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships

We have 47 Synthetic Chemistry (self) PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships

Self-assembled sensors for bio-signalling molecules

In this multi-discplinary project involving organic synthesis, coordination chemistry, biological chemistry, photophysics and electrochemistry , transition metal-templated self-assembly will be used to construct supramolecular structures intended to act as hosts and electrochemical/optical sensors for biological signalling models. Reaction Monitoring and Structural Characterisation of Coordination Driven Self-Assembled Systems by Ion Mobility-Mass Spectrometry

Can you envisage a world where building a new catalyst or an artificial enzyme is like following an architectural plan for building a house? This is difficult as we don't even fully understand the construction materials! We research the properties of molecular building-blocks and their "constructed" aggregates, towards drawing up these type of blueprints. Read more

Organic Synthesis and Self-Assembly of State-Independent Electrolyte Materials

Ideal electrolytes for energy devices such as batteries and solar cells would (i) be lightweight and flexible, (ii) exhibit thermal stability, (iii) be non-volatile (to reduce fire risk), (iv) provide good interfacial contact with electrodes, (v) be amenable to processing and recycling, (vi) have high ionic conductivities, and (vii) be made from cheap, renewable feedstocks. Design and study of modified peptide foldamers

These projects are open to students worldwide, but have no funding attached. Therefore, the successful applicant will be expected to fund tuition fees at the relevant level (home or international) and any applicable additional research costs. Read more

Dynamic behaviours of metal-organic frameworks and their guests

Self-funded applicants are invited to join our vibrant research community at the University of Birmingham's School of Chemistry for a PhD position focused on functional Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Read more

PhD in Chemistry: Structural effects in alternating biodegradable polymers

Dr Alison Paul Dr Alison Paul - People - Cardiff University is looking for a PhD student to join the Soft Matter Research Group for a project on “Structural effects in alternating biodegradable polymers”. Read more
