Virology PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships in the UK

We have 33 Virology PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships in the UK

Development of a DNA amplification-free assay for pathogen detection

Applications are invited for a funded PhD position in the School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham. The School of Chemistry is keen to achieve a gender and diversity balance across the School and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. Read more

Developing the next generation of broad-spectrum antiviral polymers

Applications are invited for a funded PhD position in the School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham. The School of Chemistry is keen to achieve a gender and diversity balance across the School and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. Read more

Understanding the transcriptional regulation of BK polyomavirus

As obligate intracellular pathogens, viruses rely on host-cell machinery to facilitate their lifecycle. Nuclear-replicating DNA viruses are exposed to factors that can dictate the transcriptional output of the invading viral genome and ultimately influence infection outcome. Read more

Viral-surface interactions studied by vibrational sum-frequency spectroscopy

The recent COVID-19 pandemic, and in particular fomite transmission of the virus, led to a lot of interest in how viral particles attached to surfaces, their survival times on different materials and how they transferred to hosts. Read more

Predicting the Evolution of Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 Viruses

Our research focus is to design and develop analytical, computational, and mathematical methods to understand the fundamental processes that govern the evolution of influenza and SARS-CoV-2 viruses. Read more

Developing an AI-driven BCI-based neurofeedback device to treat chronic post-viral fatigue syndrome

The Faculty of Science and Health at the University of Essex is offering one PhD research Scholarship for a student to participate in a joint project with g.tec (gtec.at), NHS, and BT. Read more

Cancer: Understanding the immunosuppressive role of fibroblast and macrophages in Breast cancer

Oncolytic viruses (OVs) preferentially infect and kill cancer cells, and their clinical efficacy has been demonstrated against a number of different cancers. The most clinically advanced OV is a genetically engineered herpes simplex virus (T-VEC) which expresses GMCSF to aid the development of anti-tumour immune responses; T-VEC is approved for the treatment of metastatic melanoma.
