24 Fully Funded PhD Studentships in Environmental Research NERC

24 Fully Funded PhD Studentships in Environmental Research NERC

Closing date for submission of applications: Friday 5th January 2024

The NERC Panorama Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) has around 24 fully funded studentships for October 2024 starters to study the science of the Earth's atmosphere and climate, Earth processes and the living world. These are all open to UK students, with a limited number of fully funded places available to international students.

About our partners

The University of Leeds (UoL) conducts world-leading research across a broad range of science related to the atmosphere, biosphere, geophysics and geology.

The Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratory (WACL) within the Chemistry department at the University of York (UoY) provides an integrated research environment in atmospheric chemistry and composition and provides key complementary skills in atmospheric composition observations, laboratory studies and modelling.

The Energy and Environment Institute (EEI) at the University of Hull (UoH) is a multidisciplinary research institute delivering high quality research, spanning from biology to geosciences, and solutions to major environmental and societal challenges. Our website lists the exciting and challenging research projects available in our host departments.

Studying with DTP

Our PhD students will be enrolled in an innovative training programme that provides them with multidisciplinary skills which extend well beyond their personal research topic and which will prepare them for a range of careers. Leeds, York and Hull are geographically close so that students can be effectively integrated into a 'single-site' which provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary training within a small geographical area.

Our external partners include the Met Office, NERC research centres, charities, non-governmental organisations, government bodies and industrial/commercial organisations from the UK and abroad. These partners will play active roles in co-supervising students, providing placement opportunities and sharing expertise through training.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

As a collaboration of international research-led universities in Yorkshire, we welcome students from all walks of life and from across the world. Within our programme, we are dedicated to diversifying our community.

As part of our ongoing work to improve Equality, Diversity and Inclusion within the NERC Panorama DTP, we are offering additional opportunities to UK/Home candidates from identified underrepresented groups: Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, those from a disadvantaged socio-economic background, and disabled people.

For 2024 we are ringfencing 10% of our interviews and at least 2 of our full DTP studentships for these underrepresented groups.
