Upto 25 funded PhD Studentships

Imperial College London is one of the world's leading universities, and the Department of Computing carries our world-leading research in many areas of computer science. We welcome applications from students of the highest calibre for PhD study in all areas of the Department's research. These include artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, computational optimisation, computer systems and architecture, computer vision, data management, distributed systems, graphics, internet of things, logic, machine learning, medical imaging, performance, programming languages, robotics, security, scientific computing, software engineering, theoretical computer science and verification.

Although applications can be made at any time in the year, to increase your chances in the competition for funding, we recommend that you apply by one of the following two dates. Corresponding notification dates are also listed:

PhD applications now open in the Department of Computing
Application deadline Notification of acceptance and funding
31 January 2016 1 May 2016
7 April 2016 6 June 2016

You may increase your chance of acceptance and facilitate efficient processing of your application by:

  • ensuring that the full paperwork for the application reaches the college by one of the above deadlines;
  • writing a convincing and compelling research statement as a self--contained document. See here for details of what is required. Note that the research statement will be evaluated as part of the application process – it does not constitute a commitment to carry out the exact research work that you have described;
  • indicating in the application general research areas of interest and potential supervisors under whom you would like to carry out your PhD work.

Applications

The College uses an online application system, which you can access by going here. Applications are formally processed by the Department only when the full paperwork has been received and processed by the College Registry. So we strongly advise you to read:

  • The Imperial College Postgraduate Prospectus
  • The application guidance notes
  • The postgraduate research admission policy
