EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Quantum Engineering

Centre for Doctoral Training in Quantum Engineering

Fully funded four-year PhD studentships are available for exceptional graduates with a background in mathematics, engineering, computer science and the physical sciences.

Through world-leading academic research, as well as partnering with some of industry's most important players, the Quantum Engineering CDT in Bristol has led the world in developing an environment that delivers an unparalleled training and development experience. Underpinned by this world-class expertise, this four-year doctoral programme offers a unique experience for those seeking academic excellence and a route into the burgeoning quantum technologies industry. As a quantum engineer, you will be trained at the intersection of physics, engineering, mathematics and computer science, as well as in skills such as outreach and entrepreneurship, before embarking on a PhD research programme that you can help design yourself.

Highlights include:

  • Guided and self-inspired research with a broad range of PhD research projects
  • Practical application as well as a sound theoretical understanding of quantum physics
  • Industry trip to USA to visit companies and research labs in the quantum field in year 1
  • Financial support for academic and industrial placements
  • Complementary skills – such as commercialisation and science communication - necessary for academic and industrial excellence
  • Access to an international network of world-class academic and industrial collaborators
  • Opportunity and funding to attend international and national conferences
  • A cohort approach to learning, enabling students to learn from each other in a rapidly evolving field
  • Access to a broad technology base and state-of-the-art facilities
  • Exclusive use of the CDT student office for your first year
