Fully funded PhD scholarship opportunities for September 2016

Our recent REF results

According to the latest national Research Excellence Framework, our research programme is ranked in the top five of all UK modern universities. Overall, 65% of our research received the prestigious 4* and 3* rating as world-leading and internationally excellent.

How the scholarships work

Our VC's scholarships are for home, EU and international applicants and our Graduate Training Assistantships are for home and EU applicants only. They cover your tuition fees (at home/EU levels) and provide maintenance at Research Council UK levels – currently £14,057 – for three years of full-time study, normally commencing in September/October 2016.

We welcome applicants of all nationalities for VC's scholarships, subject to details set out in the eligibility criteria on our website.

Our research environment

We provide a rich and vibrant research environment for our doctoral students. You will have access to the University's well-equipped research infrastructure, including dedicated workspaces, computing equipment, extensive library resources and multi-million pound laboratory and practice-related spaces.

Supervision is provided from world-leading and internationally-excellent academic staff who will develop your knowledge, understanding and skills, and share the techniques and professional networks cultivated through their own cutting-edge research. Pastoral support is also provided, alongside academic guidance.
