Its international exchange programs are well established, consequently there are more than 2,000 international students from approximately 80 countries.

Green Asia Program (GA): A 5 year consecutive MSc and PhD Program.

The “Advanced Graduate Program in Global Strategy for Green Asia” aims at developing leadership qualities in scientists and engineers in order to realize economic growth and sustainable development.

The program students have the unique opportunity to receive both cutting edge scientific and engineering training as well as humanities and social sciences such as environmental science, basic sociology and economics. The program requires students to undertake periods of intensive work experience in partnering global corporations and research institutes. These internships may be held in Japan or overseas. All students are offered financial support and travel expenses are fully paid during internships.

Intellectual Exchange and Innovation Program (IEI Program): PhD Program

This doctoral program was conceived to act as a high-tech training academy for talented young international students to become the future distinguished academics.

The IEI program can offer 10 scholarships annually to the most outstanding international PhD candidates to pursue a fulltime PhD research program in any subject available at the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences (IGSES), KU. The scholarships include the full payment of tuition fees and a generous maintenance allowance of 145,000 JPY per month for three years.

The application for 2016 enrollment was closed on Nov-15, 2015.
The next recruitment will be scheduled from August 2016. To find a potential supervisor for your Ph.D study, we strongly recommend applicants to contact IGSES professors much earlier than the application deadline.

Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences (IGSES)

The Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences (IGSES) consists of 5 departments and plays an important role in advanced research and education in Materials Science as well as Energy and the Environment in cooperation with the Institutes for Materials Chemistry and Engineering (IMCE) and the Research Institute for Applied Mechanics (RIAM).

IGSES actively accepts excellent international students from various leading universities by providing graduate programs, such as the Green Asia Program and the IEI Program. Earth Resource Engineering (ERE)

The objectives of this department are to educate the next generation of Earth resource engineers and to contribute to the sustainable development of minerals and energy resources. This department is one of the cornerstones of the Green Asia Program.

Our department consists of seven laboratories: Economic Geology, Exploration Geophysics, Geothermics, Resource Production and Safety Engineering, Rock Engineering and Mining Machinery, Mineral Processing, Recycling and Environmental Remediation and Energy Resources Engineering. This wide range of research fields cover all the key topics of resource development from exploration, production, remediation, and recycling. Our research interests also extend to volcanic hazards, geothermal and urban mining.
