PhD Scholarships in the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS)

Full and part funded PhD scholarships are now available in the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society at Heriot Watt University. The School undertakes high quality, high impact research, addressing both local and global challenges, in a range of diverse disciplines. In the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) of 2014, 90% of our overall research activity in General Engineering and 70% of our overall research activity in Architecture, Built Environment and Planning was confirmed as world-leading or internationally excellent.

The School is organised around six Institutes and we are delighted to announce the availability of a number of opportunities for strong candidates to study towards a PhD in each Institute:-

  • Institute for Infrastructure and Environment (IIE)
  • Institute of Life and Earth Sciences (ILES)
  • Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design (CESBD)
  • Institute for Social Policy, Housing, and Equalities Research (I-SPHERE)
  • Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE)
  • The Urban Institute (TUI)

PhD Scholarships in the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants should have a first-class honours degree in a relevant subject or a 2.1 honours degree plus Masters (or equivalent). Additional criteria may apply so please check the specific project details before applying. Scholarships will be awarded by competitive merit, taking into account the academic ability of the applicant.

Timetable

The closing date for applications is Friday 10th February 2017. Applications will be reviewed throughout March and applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by the end of April 2017. Applicants MUST be available to start the course of study in October 2017.
