International Doctoral Program in Science

In a world lead by fast evolving technology, being at the forefront of research is a fundamental asset in the development of one’s career. This program will set you at the forefront of science and state of the art technologies. You will interact with scientifically recognized tutors in a world-wide framework

The course, established in 2016, works on an international context involving 4 universities:

  • The University of Notre Dame du Lac - ND (USA)
  • KU Leuven (Belgium)
  • Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile - PUC Chile (Chile)
  • Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore - UCSC (Italy)

Positions Available

  1. Supersonic cluster beam deposition of nanoalloys and bimetallic nanostructures for enhanced oxygen evolution reaction - Joint research project between UCSC and ND
  2. Phase-change materials-based nano-antennas and meta-surfaces - Joint research project between UCSC and KU
  3. Investigation of few-atoms-thick films by time-resolved high resolution optical microscopy - Joint research project between UCSC and KU
  4. Advanced spectroscopies of 2D materials and hybrid interfaces for applications in the field of photocatalysis and photovoltaics - Joint research project between UCSC and ND
  5. Functionalization of 2D materials using ultra-low energy ion implantation - Joint research project between KU and UCSC
  6. Establishing microscopic photophysics in hybrid perovskite solar cells - Joint research project between ND and UCSC
  7. Investigating vectorial protein transport through nanopores - joint research project between ND and UCSC

  • The program has been designed to develop innovative international science projects, at the verge of different disciplines (Nanotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Mathematics…), among top universities worldwide. This initiative promotes the mobility of scholars providing wide opportunities to learn and experience different environments.
  • Students are recruited to work under joint supervision on research projects involving two of the participating universities, with a mandatory stay of at least one year in each university.
  • Duration of the course is 4 years
  • Dual degree opportunity for each position

Access to the facilities of each institution is granted by the Program co-tutoring scheme.

Admission

The scholarship application deadline is 27 September 2019.

Prospective students

Applications for the selection procedure will be considered from candidates of all ages and nationalities who have an university degree at the master level (see the call for details).

Financial support

Each position is supported by a scholarships that varies depending on the financing institution.

Incoming foreign students will be helped by the secretariat to find a temporary or permanent accommodation in the work location. The School will also provide the necessary information about how to get the VISA and permit of stay.
