Winton Scholarships for PhD Studentships in Physics of Sustainability

Winton Scholarships for PhD Studentships in Physics of Sustainability

University of Cambridge – Physics Department

Limit of tenure: 3.5 years

Advances in fundamental physics have the potential to address the demands of a growing population and strained natural resources. The Winton Programme for the Physics of Sustainability will support outstanding people with the radical ideas that will bring practical solutions to these problems. The research will be primarily in the Physics department with interdisciplinary activities with other departments in the university encouraged to explore new directions in basic science.

The Fund Managers of the Winton Programme invite applications for Scholarships from those starting PhD study in the area of Physics of Sustainability in October 2021. Awards will provide for all university and college fees due, maintenance at the current UK Research Council level (£15,285 per annum in 2020/21), and a contribution to research expenses. Awards may also be made to supplement part-support from other sources.

Applicants should complete an Expression of Interest form and send to the Winton Programme by email (winton@phy.cam.ac.uk) by 3 December 2020 to express an interest in applying for a Winton Scholarship. In addition a two-page research proposal will need to be completed and submitted by 14 February 2021.

Applicants are required to also submit a standard application to the University (GRADSAF) - see www.postgraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/ for more details.
