Centre for Doctoral Training in Plastic Electronics

Applications are invited for fully funded and self-funded four-year CDT studentships in Plastic Electronic Materials, at the EPSRC Plastic Electronics Centre for Doctoral Training (Imperial College London, Oxford University and Queen Mary University London). The Plastic Electronics CDT programme is a 1+3 year MRes+PhD cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional and industry-supported programme.

Funding is available for UK applicants, and EU candidates who meet the Research Council criterion of having been ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK for the past three years. We also welcome applications from self-funding CDT and MRes (including international) applicants. Candidates should have at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering (other degrees are also considered). You should be looking for a challenging, interdisciplinary research training environment and have an active interest in the development and applications of new functional materials.

Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Plastic Electronics

Funded CDT projects available for 2018 entry:

  • Charge transfer kinetics and energy offsets at hybrid perovskite/organic interfaces
  • Plant-on-a-Chip: Monitoring Disease Response in Living Plants with Printed Sensors
  • Low band gap acceptors for integrated perovskite/organic solar cell
  • Pump‐push‐probe spectroscopy for identification and elimination of trap states in hybrid perovskites
  • Controlled Superstructures in vacuum-deposited organic semiconductors
  • Organic composite-based neuromorphic devices and circuits for bioelectronics
  • Towards in-vivo electrochemical imaging with flexible, light-addressable organic semiconductor electrodes
  • Engineering stable, high-efficiency perovskite photovoltaics
  • 2D functional inks for flexible optoelectronics
  • Printable perovskite solar cells
  • Atomic engineering of bulk and surface polarisation for enhanced solar energy conversion
  • Circularly polarised photodetectors based on induced chirality in polymer/small molecule blends

Other projects are available for self-funding and MRes students.

The Centre for Doctoral Training approach aims to enhance postgraduate teaching and research through placing more emphasis on training, collaboration, networking and transferable skills than traditional postgraduate programmes. Students progress through the programme as a cohort, supporting and learning from each other. The PE-CDT programme encompasses cohort-building elements, including group learning, a Winter School, outreach activities, and social events.
