Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education: PhD Study opportunities

We're the largest provider of health, social care and education courses in the East of England with over 6,000 students from more than 20 countries. We offer a range of internationally recognised undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses taught by friendly and experienced staff. You'll study in an exciting, modern faculty which has strong links with regional, national and international organisations, including healthcare trusts, schools and academic institutions.

Funding Information

At present none of our courses below have scholarships available for them but further information on funding options can be seen here for UK/EU students and here for international students. Across the university we offer some funded PhD studentships which are advertised on our jobs website as they become available.

Research

At the cutting edge of research, we provide a creative environment to address real issues across health, social care and education. Our Faculty brings together a range of professionals to engage in world-leading research and innovation to benefit both our students and staff. From nursing to early childhood education, social inclusion to mobile learning, we're passionate about research that makes a difference.

In 2014 our Veterans and Families Institute was set up and is carrying out valuable research into the impact of military experience on veterans and their loved ones. With our research in Social Work and Social Policy and nursing rated as world-leading in the Research Excellence Framework last year, we are continuing to break new ground.

We have also set up a number of research units dedicated to making advancements in research and improving practice. These include our Anglia Ruskin Nursing Research Unit, our Early Childhood Research Group, Participatory Inquiry Forum and the Social Inclusion Research Group.

Researchers in our Faculty are involved in multiple collaborations with local, national and international agencies in the statutory and voluntary sectors. There are a number of international collaborations with partners for example in Israel, Ukraine, Canada, the United States of America, South Africa, Rwanda, Bulgaria and elsewhere.

With our staff regularly contributing to research publications our students are supported by a proactive research community that applies their findings both theoretically and practically. We are proud that many of our students also contribute to scholarly publications demonstrating their impact to the wider academic community.

We offer three routes to doctoral qualification;

• Professional Doctorate in Education - For those working in early years organisations, schools, local authorities, further education institutes, higher education or lifelong learning centres our Professional Doctorate allows our students to influence the world of education right from their workplace;

• Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care – our course is for advanced health or social care practitioners with postgraduate qualifications, who want to take an innovative lead in their speciality through original, published research to improve policy and practice;

• PhD/MPhil Health, Social Care & Education – Make a substantial contribution to knowledge in your specialty, in the shape of published research. Whether our students decide to join an existing project or develop their own we have a supervisory team of experienced academics with specialist knowledge across a spectrum of practice and research.
