Word documents or pdf files will be accepted. We require two files clearly labelled SURNAME, CV and SURNAME, COVERING LETTER. No other documents will be accepted.
What are the entry requirements?
You should already have, or anticipate being awarded in 2017, a UK honours degree (minimum 2:1) or international equivalent, in a related subject, for example; Neuroscience, Biological or Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, Medicine. - Details of voluntary research/clinical experience
- Details of any academic publications, conference presentations or posters you have written or presented

What should I include in my covering letter?
You should not repeat the information presented in your CV but expand upon it. For example; what is it you can bring to this programme? What do you hope to learn? How will a PhD in Clinical Neurosciences fit into, or further your career plans? Why is a four year programme attractive?
Recruitment Timetable
Applications close on 4 January 2017. Interviews will be held in mid January 2017 and offers will be made shortly thereafter. An alternative interview date cannot be offered to individual shortlisted candidates. Due to the number of applications we receive (2016: 215) we will only contact you if you have been shortlisted for interview. If you have not heard from us by 18 January 2017 you should assume you have not been shortlisted.
What is a 4 Year PhD?
Students on a four year PhD programme spend their first year gaining generic research skills and broadening their research experience before completing a "conventional" three year PhD in years 2-4 of their studies. Students on the Four Year PhD in Clinical Neurosciences hosted by the UCL Institute of Neurology rotate through three different research labs on three month placements in year one of their studies. They also complete one MSc module, complete a web–based statistics package and undertake other appropriate generic skills training during their first year. At the end of each lab placement students are asked to present their work to the programme steering group. This first year has the following advantages:
- it enables students from different backgrounds to broaden their knowledge and skills in three different areas of neuroscience research
- it gives students greater insight into neuroscience research, in particular it illustrates to them where their specific skills and experience might best fit, before they select their main 3 year project

Funding notes
Successful applicants will be awarded an annual stipend of £18K, plus EU / Home Fees. NB: Candidates who are not EEA nationals are eligible to apply if they meet the minimum application requirements but all non-EEA applicants must demonstrate the ability to pay the difference between the home Home/EU fee and the International fee for 4 years from the start date of the studentship.
