PhD Studentship Awards 2017

Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Queen’s University Belfast invites applications for PhD Studentship Awards commencing in autumn 2017. Studentships are available through five schemes:

  • AHRC Northern Bridge (for studentships in Arts and Humanities)
  • Northern Ireland’s Department for Economy (for all subject areas within the Faculty)
  • Northern Ireland and North East (NINE) Doctoral Training Partnership (For studentships in Social Sciences)
  • The Leverhulme Interdisciplinary Network on Cybersecurity and Society (LINCS) (for research between the social sciences and computer science & electronic engineering)
  • The Centre for Evidence and Social Innovation (CESI) (Note that these commence in January or February 2017)

AHRC Northern Bridge Studentships

If you are interested in applying for a studentship in the Arts and Humanities, please complete the application process in line with the AHRC's Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership's studentship competition. The closing date for Northern Bridge applications is 11 January 2017 at 5pm.

DfE Studentships

36 studentships are available and they will be allocated to outstanding students undertaking PhD study across the broad range of disciplines within the Faculty. The closing date for DfE applications is 17 February 2017 at 5pm.

NINE Studentships

The ESRC NINE DTP runs a single, combined annual studentship competition to recruit and select PG students of the very highest calibre which is centred on the quality of candidates and their proposed research. The closing date for DfE applications is 16 January 2017 at 5pm.

Leverhulme (LINCS) PhD Scholarship Opportunities

The Leverhulme Interdisciplinary Network on Cybersecurity and Society (LINCS) at Queen’s University Belfast has been established to support pioneering research at the interface between the social sciences and electronic engineering & computer science. LINCS brings together the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation and Social Justice (ISCTSJ) and the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) to develop a distinctive cohort of doctoral students working across the boundaries of their disciplines who will open up new avenues of enquiry centred initially on the priority themes and specific PhD projects.

Centre for Evidence and Social Innovation (CESI)

Three fully-funded research studentships are available which reflect the Centre’s commitment to tackling key social problems in West Belfast. The studentships will begin in January or February 2017 and will run on a full-time basis for three years.

The closing date for CESI applications is Friday 16 December 2016 at 4pm.
