To celebrate the University's research successes, the University of Hull is offering one full-time UK/EU PhD Scholarship or International Fees Bursary for candidates applying for the following project

We are seeking 3 students to join a multi-disciplinary team investigating gender balance in academia and developing and evaluating behavioural interventions to maximise academic success. Supervision will be offered by a team from the Faculties of Health and Social Care and Arts and Social Science with the Hull York Medical School and the Hull University Business School. We particularly welcome applications from students with an interest in innovative and creative research methods. The studentships build on existing work-streams: an Athena SWAN (AS) Bronze Award and the PoWER Programme.
The purpose of Athena SWAN (AS) was to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in higher education and research. There has been some evaluation of the impact of AS which demonstrates generally positive changes in the culture, attitudes, fairness of workload allocation and collaborative working at AS institutions but this remains an under-researched area.
PoWER is a University wide programme open to all university female academic staff and launching in International Women's Week, March 2016. Delegates will attend a series of inspiring events designed to motivate and support them in their research careers. The programme is underpinned by behaviour change theory. The PoWER team will work with delegates in groups and individually to identify barriers to progression and devise tailored interventions and action plans to support focused development and research outputs. PoWER is designed to improve knowledge and skills and build confidence and so enhance motivation and support goal setting. This will be achieved by both experts imparting their knowledge and experience and vitally through a process of social influence by exposing delegates to high achieving women.
Successful applicants will join a wider team which will meet regularly and will be part of a vibrant research community.
PhD 1: Evaluation of the impact of PoWER
PhD 2: Longitudinal study of the progress of a cohort of male and female academics as they begin their academic careers
PhD 3: Development of psychometric tools to assess ability of women to achieve excellence in research and specific support needs

In order to qualify for this scholarship you will require an undergraduate degree with at least a 2.1, or equivalent in a relevant subject.
Full-time UK/EU PhD Scholarships will include fees at the ‘home/EU' student rate and maintenance (£14,057 in 2015/16) for three years, depending on satisfactory progress.
Full-time International Fee PhD Studentships will include full fees at the International student rate for three years, dependent on satisfactory progress.
PhD students at the University of Hull follow modules for research and transferable skills development and gain a Masters level Certificate, or Diploma, in Research Training, in addition to their research degree.
Successful applicants will be informed of the award as soon as possible and by 30th April 2016 at the latest.
