 Funded PhD Programme (Students Worldwide)

About the Programme

The Business Department at Universidad Carlos III is requesting applications for students wishing to specialize in Accounting, Finance , Management or Marketing research areas in its Master in Business and Finance (MB&F). The department will fully-fund 15 students
to take part in this program.

The objective of the scholarships is to prepare highly qualified and motivated students from anywhere in the world to carry out original research in the fields of accounting, finance, management and marketing, with a thorough preparation in empirical methods and statistics.

The program is a five year PhD program that consists of two phases:
1. First phase = Master MB&F: 2 years. This is the coursework of the PhD program. The scholarships are awarded for this program. Those that qualify will see the scholarship extended for the second phase
2. Second phase = PhD writing phase: 3 years. For those who have completed the MB&F and qualify for the second phase.

The program is a full-time program with all classes been taught in English. Graduating students find placement in the world of research, both academic and non-academic, in international organizations, central banks, government agencies and firms.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Students in the first year acquire a broad set of theoretical and methodological skills in the fields of Finance-Accounting, and Management-Marketing.

During the second year (MB&F) students complete their training in their areas of specialization and have the option to continue along a more intense academic track as preparation for the PhD program, or complete their training with more applied courses. During this second year, students can take a couple of electives from other specializations or from other official masters (Finance, Economics, Management, Marketing, Big Data, etc). Our PhD program has been accredited as a Program of Excellence by the Spanish Government and it is internationally oriented (more than 80% are non-Spanish students).

PLACEMENT:

Our students usually continue from the Master to the PhD program. Our graduates have found employment in academic positions, such as University College London, Erasmus University, Max Planck Institute, Lancaster University, Instituto de Empresa, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and non-academic positions, such as the Spanish stock market regulator (CNMV)

FINANCIAL AID:

Selected candidates receive a yearly scholarship of approximately 15,000 euros per year (before taxes—this sum includes tuition fees plus a monthly stipend) for two years. This scholarship is renewable for students that are accepted into the PhD program. Renewals will be made individually and conditional on the student's academic and research performance. Scholarships can be renewed for a total of 2 (MB&F)+3(PhD) years.
