About the Centre for Rural Policy Research (CRPR)
The CRPR is a grouping of social scientists within the University of Exeter's Politics department with a long track record of undertaking research on topics including agricultural and environmental policy, sustainable land management and the sociology of agriculture. Much of this work has a strong policy focus. Previous PhD students have gone on to a range of career destinations including academia, research support, consultancy and government agencies. About the award
The CRPR is recruiting for an excellent doctoral student whose areas of interest complement those of our academics and our ongoing research programmes. We are looking for an ambitious scholar who is developing ideas for an independent research agenda in one of the following broad topics:
• Farmer attitudes to and implementation of agri-environmental policies
• Farming practices, wildlife and pests
• Old and new forms of urban food production
• The politics of sustainable land management
• New entrants to farming: building knowledge and experience
• The mental health and well-being of farming families
• The future of family farming in the UK
• Intergenerational succession in rural family businesses
The student will be supervised by Professor Matt Lobley and Dr. Angela Cassidy. The studentship, open to Home/EU applicants only, includes the Home/EU fee rate (currently £4,400 per annum) and a maintenance stipend at UK research council rates (currently £14,553 per annum).
